Steel Fence Repair in Palmdale, CA

This shop repairs what somebody welded in the first place: picket and rail panels in the wrought iron style, round pipe with ranch rail, and the posts under them. Chain link falls outside it. Wood and vinyl do not weld at all. In Palmdale the question mostly answers itself, since Municipal Code 17.86.040 allows chain link in residential and mixed use zones only as temporary fencing.

A post that has gone over is a footing problem wearing a steel hat. The home remedy is to shove it upright and pour a sack of mix onto ground that already gave way. The next wind comes from the same direction through the same panel. Look down the line: the posts either side carry that load too, and one is usually next. We pull the post, open the hole wider and deeper, and reset it in fresh concrete.

Rust follows elevation, not panels. The bottom few inches of every picket and every post sit in the same sprinkler throw, so damage shows as a level band with sound steel above it. What decides the cut is whether wall is left: thinned steel still holds a weld, steel a screwdriver goes through does not. Fix the water too, or the new steel goes the way the old did.

Replacement tube is built to what is standing rather than to stock sizes. We measure the picket, the rail and the post wall, then cut and fit on the bench so the new piece lands flush between two sound posts. A fence set in the ground cannot be dipped again, and each weld burns the coating back a few inches, so those zones are cleaned to bright steel, primed with a zinc rich compound and topcoated by hand. Welding repair is C-60 work.

Palmdale puts the reason to repair and the warning about replacing in one section. Paragraph 17.86.040.E requires fences and walls to be kept up continuously, with no rust and no disrepair showing, so a corroded run is a code matter. The warning sits in the material list, where solid metal fencing is prohibited. A patched run stays the fence that was there. A replaced run counts as new, so a solid steel face that came down cannot go back up in the same material. The code fixes no length and no share at which patching becomes replacing, so take the damaged footage to Palmdale Planning.
