Steel Fence Repair in Lancaster, CA

The list starts and ends with steel. Picket and rail panels, a solid steel face on a welded frame, pipe and ranch rail, and the posts holding them up. Chain link does not make that list. We do not patch it or quote it. It is wire fabric and tension bands, not a weld. Wood and vinyl do not take an arc.

A line post that leans is telling you about the concrete under it, not the panel above. Desert wind works that panel every afternoon and nothing above grade resists it. A solid face takes the gust whole. A picket run gives it somewhere to go. A panel pulled level over a turned footing goes over again within a season. The post comes out, the hole goes wider and deeper, and it is reset with at least 36 inches of it in concrete, more where the panel is solid. That figure is this shop's own practice, not a published minimum.

Rails and pickets fail in ways you can read. A rail bowed across several feet has kept its wall, and it comes back with pulling or heat. A sharp crease means the wall folded there, so that length comes out and new tube goes in between two sound posts. Picket bottoms are the other regular. An open bottom channel holds sprinkler water for days, and every picket stands a cut end in it. Sink a screwdriver into a picket bottom, then a post base. Where it punches through, welding is no longer an option.

Patching and replacing are two jobs at the planning counter, not one. A patch leaves the fence that stood there before. A replacement section is a new fence, and it answers to the rule in force today. Inside Lancaster city limits that rule is Municipal Code 17.08.130.D: 4 feet within a front yard or corner lot side yard setback, 6 feet within a side or rear setback. Section 17.08.130.E lets a director's review add as much as 25 percent. On county ground beside the city, LA County Code 22.110.070 takes over at 3.5 feet in a required front yard. Neither book prints a length or a share of a run at which a patch becomes a replacement, so describe the job at the counter.

Where the work happens follows what has to be clamped. A panel or a short section rides back to the Division Street shop and gets squared on a bench. Runs set in concrete are welded standing. Welding kills the coating either side of a joint, and a fence in the ground cannot go back through a galvanizing kettle. That zone gets ground clean, then a zinc rich coat and a topcoat. Welding repair is C-60 work.
