Welding in Rosamond, CA

DM Welding covers Rosamond from our shop at 45551 Division Street in Lancaster, a short run south across the Kern County line. Bring the broken part to the shop, or we bring the welder to your property. Gates, steel fence, trailers, equipment and small parts are all normal work, and there is no minimum job.

How a broken steel part gets welded, step by step

  1. Design rendering of a flat top steel picket gate with a snapped picket and a cracked weld along its top rail

    Show us the break

Send a photo of the break and say what the part does. We tell you if it is a shop job, a site job, or a part to replace.

  2. Design rendering of gloved hands fitting a new square steel picket under the top rail of a gate section on a shop bench

    Fit it on the bench

Anything that fits in a pickup bed or on a trailer comes to the shop, where it stays dry on a bench while it is cut and fitted.

  3. Design rendering of the top of a repaired steel picket gate with flat steel caps welded on every picket

    Weld, then cap flat

The cracked frame weld gets welded up. The county bars points on lower fences, so the rebuilt top leaves our bench with a flat or rounded cap, never a spear.

Shop or site

From Rosamond, anything that fits in a pickup bed or rides on a trailer can come to Division Street. The shop runs Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, and small repairs walk in without an appointment. Inside, the part goes on a bench where it stays dry and sheltered while it is cut, fitted and welded.

Other jobs have to be welded where they stand: a gate still on its posts, a fence line, a loaded trailer, a machine that will not move. For those we drive the welder up from Lancaster. Rosamond is the only town we cover that sits in Kern County, and the county line changes the rulebook for a fence, not the trip.

Work we take on

  • Gate latches, hinge tabs and cracked frame welds, on site or in the shop
  • Steel fence: snapped pickets, split rail joints, rusted sections cut out and spliced
  • Trailers and dump bodies: cracked side walls, tailgates and brackets
  • Yard and shop equipment: racks, frames and machine parts
  • Handrails for steps and porches
  • New parts cut and welded from a drawing or your measurements

Our work is steel: plate, tube, pipe and hardened wear plate. Chain link, wood and vinyl belong to other trades.

Cold mornings

For weather, the closest long record we use for Rosamond is the National Weather Service station at Fox Field in Lancaster. Its January 2026 report counted 21 nights at or below freezing. Spring did not end it: April 2026 still had 4 freezing nights, with a low of 28°F on April 18.

Cold matters most when the repair is on hardened wear plate, such as a dump body floor or side wall. SSAB, the maker of Hardox, wants moisture cleaned off the weld area first. When the temperature is below 5°C (41°F) or the air is humid, it raises the minimum preheat by 25°C, a 45°F change (SSAB, Welding of Hardox). On a frosty morning a wear plate repair needs more heat and more time before the first bead goes down. If your Rosamond job is on wear plate, ask about timing when you call.

When a repair changes the fence

A weld that puts a gate back the way it was raises no code question. A repair that changes the steel can. In Rosamond the rule is Kern County Code 19.08.210, not the Lancaster or Los Angeles County codes.

On lots zoned E or R-1 through R-3 it allows 4 feet in a required front yard and 6 feet in side and rear yards. It also bars sharp wire or points at the top of any fence or wall under 6 feet. So a broken gate top rebuilt under that height leaves our bench with a flat or rounded cap, never a spear point. Kern writes these figures district by district, so a lot zoned for something else should get its numbers from Kern County planning first.

Weld it or replace it

A weld is not always the right repair, and we tell you before we start. Peterbilt's 2024 Heavy Duty Body Builder Manual allows a weld on a cracked heat treated frame rail only as a temporary emergency fix and calls for the rail to be replaced. Hardened wear plate needs a process and filler kept to 5 ml of hydrogen or less per 100 g of weld metal, or it can crack after the job is finished. Our welding and steel repair page goes further into both.

If a gate is past saving, a new one is the work we most like to do. We build custom steel gates in the Lancaster shop, cut and welded to the measured opening, and deliver them. For work on the gate you already have, see gate repair in Rosamond.

Before you call

Send a photo of the break, say what the part does, and tell us where it is. For a Rosamond site job, say whether a truck can drive up to it. We will tell you if it is a shop job, a site job, or a part that should be replaced.

FAQ

Questions about welding in Rosamond

Do you do mobile welding in Rosamond?

Yes. We drive the welder up from our Lancaster shop for gates, fence lines, trailers and equipment that cannot travel. Call (818) 220-8704 to book a time.

Does being in Kern County change anything?

Not the service. We cover Rosamond from Lancaster the same as the towns south of it. What changes is the fence and gate rule: Kern County Code 19.08.210 applies instead of the Lancaster or Los Angeles County codes.

Can you weld a new latch onto my gate where it stands?

Usually. A latch plate, a hinge tab or a cracked weld is site work. A leaf that has racked out of square is different. It only comes true held flat on a shop table, so that leaf rides back to Lancaster.

What makes one welding job cost more than another?

Where it is done, what the steel is, and how much has to come out. A site visit adds travel. Wear plate needs preheat and more time. A crack that runs into rusted steel means cutting back and splicing in new metal. Coating the weld area adds a step. A photo lets us talk through those before anyone drives out.

Can my gate get spear tops while you have it?

On a lot zoned E or R-1 through R-3, only if the gate stands 6 feet or taller, because Kern County Code 19.08.210 bars sharp points at the top of anything lower there. Below that height on those lots we finish it flat or rounded. On other zoning, ask Kern County planning first.

Are you open on weekends?

The shop is closed Saturday and Sunday, but someone is on call. If a broken gate or trailer cannot wait, call (818) 220-8704.
