Handrails and Railings in Leona Valley, CA

On a Leona Valley home with settled steps, a porch that has dropped out of level, or a ramp that turns, a stock rail trimmed to fit leaves gaps and odd angles. We measure every riser, the landings and what each end meets, then cut and weld the rail to that geometry in the shop.

Rails fail at the anchor, not in the tube. A baseplate on top of the step lands its anchors close to the nosing, where the concrete is weakest. A side mount through the face pulls them back from that edge. Core drilling and grouting a post into thick, sound concrete holds best and is the hardest to undo. We choose once the concrete is in front of us, and a failing tread gets repaired before steel goes back on it.

A guard next to a pool can be counted as part of the barrier. Then Health and Safety Code 115923 applies: at least 60 inches tall, 2 inches or less underneath, no gap a 4 inch sphere passes, and no handholds or footholds on the outside. A horizontal member at a child's height reads as a foothold, so a barrier guard gets vertical pickets.

Rust starts at the foot of a post and inside the tube. Tops get capped and low points get a drain. For a rail that lives outside, galvanizing under an AAMA 2604 class powder, prepped under ASTM D7803, lasts roughly 1.5 to 2.3 times the combined life of the two coatings alone, per the American Galvanizers Association.
