A wide ranch leaf holds a lot of weight far out from its hinges, and that weight pulls the far corner down over time. Once the leaf drops, it scrapes or binds, and the operator fights it on every cycle. The cause is usually a cracked corner weld or a frame that never had a diagonal brace. We reweld the corners, add a brace that carries the load back to the hinge side, and cut out a hinge worn oval to weld in a new one.

Slide gates fail at the bottom. Sand and grit pack into the V groove of the track, a roller wears a flat spot, or a track gets bent by a tire. Any one of those makes the motor pull harder and run hotter. We straighten or replace the track and change the rollers. On Classes I, II and III, ASTM F2200 calls for a guard or cover on exposed weight bearing rollers 8 feet or less above grade, so we fit guards where they are missing. That slide gate provision does not apply to a Class IV gate.

Check the hinge post as well. If the post has moved in its footing, the whole hinge line leans, and a squared leaf will drop again. That has to be dealt with before the leaf is corrected.

The electronics have their own tells, and they belong to the operator tech. A gate that only moves while someone holds the button is in constant pressure mode, which is what happens when a monitored safety device goes missing or faults. A gate that opens and will not close on its own usually has a timer to close locked out after a sensor trip.
