A wide ranch leaf is the hard case for an operator. The motor drives the weight of the gate at the end of a long arm every cycle, so a frame that flexes or a hinge worn oval shows up fast. We square the frame, brace it, fit hinges sized to the leaf, and weld a mounting plate so operator load goes into the frame rather than the infill. Sleeves welded through the tube keep sensor wiring inside the steel.

Under UL 325 the property sets the operator class. A home serving one to four families is Class I. Commercial use, or multifamily at five units or more, is Class II. Class III is industrial ground closed to the public, and Class IV is guarded restricted access. Swing gates still need entrapment protection. UL 325 calls for two independent means in each entrapment zone, not both of one type, and every external device is monitored. A gap under 16 inches between the moving gate and a fixed edge, up to 6 feet above grade, is a zone, and the hinge end of a swing gate has one too.
