What we take on is all welded steel. Picket panels in channel rail, solid faces on a tube frame, pipe and ranch rail, and the steel posts carrying them. Chain link never makes that list. Putting woven mesh back under tension calls for bands, ties and a stretcher, a different trade. Wood will not weld and neither will vinyl. You get that answer on the first call.

A crease, a flat spot or a hard kink is a folded wall, and folded steel will not carry what it did, so that length comes out and new tube goes in between the sound ends. Rust takes the open bottom rail first, where water sits against every picket end.

Which rule reaches a Littlerock run depends on how much of it is new. Patch a length and the fence is the one that stood there before. Build a length from scratch and it is new fence, held to LA County Code 22.110.070 as it reads now: 6 feet in a required interior side or rear yard, 3 feet 6 inches in a required front yard. Parcels inside the Southeast Antelope Valley Community Standards District meet a second test, since 22.340.060.G names the materials allowed for a fence in a required yard next to a public or private road. Iron is on that list. A solid steel panel is not. Neither section prints a length or a percentage that turns a repair into a replacement.

Heat destroys coating a few inches out from every joint, and steel set in concrete cannot be redipped. The welded area is ground to bare metal, given a zinc rich compound and a topcoat, so it reads newer than the run beside it. Flag a pool before the first cut. Under Health and Safety Code 115923 a barrier stands 60 inches or taller, leaves under 2 inches at the ground, admits no 4 inch sphere, and offers a child under five no handhold or foothold on the outside face.
